Kenichi Shono
"The track wasn't very good today, so 12 seconds over the last furlong isn't bad. She's definitely sharper now after getting a race in, but whether she's as fit as she was in the spring is another question. Hopefully, this workout will bring out the best in her."

Hideaki Fujiwara (trainer)
"I was pleased with the way she worked on her own today. I wanted to see where she was from her last race, and I'm happy with what I saw. We've found out that if we space her races properly, she can race against the best of them. We'll have to wait and see how she responds here because we had her in peak form for the Shuka Sho, but we're out for some payback. We're out to beat Buena Vista; even if we don't finish first, we want to finish ahead of Buena Vista. I take pride in our stable because we get horses ready. It's just a matter of how she stacks up against (Buena Vista)."

"It didn't go well for us leading up to the final bend (in the Shuka Sho); I used more horse than I should have up to that point. I picked out (Red Desire's jockey Hirofumi) Shii at about the second turn, and I knew she was the horse to beat because she had gotten a lot stronger over the summer. I made the horse take the bit when I shouldn't have, because I didn't want to give up the position we had. I should have just stuck to the plan, but I made her work more than I should have. I think it's obvious she's a much better horse compared to the spring. She couldn't stay focused during a race back then and as a result, she always traveled toward the back. She was unbelievably relaxed - too relaxed, maybe - for a 3-year-old filly but lately she's been into her races. She's taking good position on her own, and mentally, she's changed. I think we'll travel somewhere around the middle of the pack this time, just because she's been breaking much faster recently. I'm pretty sure we won't be coming from the rear as we have in the past. The outer oval is definitely a plus and barring any accidents, the result should be there in the end. She'll probably be the favorite, and all I can say is that I'm convinced we'll win."

"She put in a lot of work last week, so we're taking it easy this week. Compared to her form for the last race, it's day and night. I could barely hold her back today."

Yoshiyuki Arakawa (trainer)
"Her action was good. We're not concerned at all with the distance or the outside course; it comes down to how she'll match up with the other horses."

"I asked the jockey (Yuichi Fukunaga) to push her at the end of the workout. On a heavy track like this, 12 seconds flat over the final furlong isn't bad at all. She's had two races this fall, but it looks like she can handle so we've been working her hard since the last race. At the very least, she'll be in better form than she was for the Shuka Sho. She's the most dependable horse at our stable and there will come a time when she can run her best race. Hopefully that time is now. She has a big, long stride so the outer course will suit her; the outside barrier hurt us in the Shuka Sho (6th place) and we're looking to turn some heads this weekend."

Katsuichi Nishiura (trainer)
"I decided to work her Thursday because the track was in bad shape because of the rain on Wednesday. The woodchip was still poor on Thursday so we went on the Polytrack (all-weather track). Since the last race, she's put some time in the pool and this week, we had her pick it up on the straight. The workouts have gone exactly according to plan so far. She's really relaxed at the moment, and we've all put in a lot of time and effort because we all want to see her win one more big title. She's in the best shape possible, and hopefully we end up with the result we want to see."

Christophe Soumillon
"I have a lot of confidence for the race. From what I saw and felt, the horse seems to understand how to race. She was very sharp and took the bit on her own. Her response time was outstanding. The 3-year-olds look pretty strong, but I want to find out firsthand how they stack up against the older horses. Little Amapola won the race last year, and I hope I can get the most out of her. If she wins here, it could lead to bigger things in the future."

Kaneo Ikezoe (trainer)
"Because she has such a big appetite - like that of a male - we always have to train her pretty hard to keep the weight off. She's an excellent workout horse, but to move the way she did in the track conditions today says a lot about the condition she's in. I'm fully aware of the quality of the competition, but we have her in top form for a Grade 1 race and that's all we can really ask of her. She's finally figured out what racing is all about, and she always finishes strong on a long straight. Against females only, you never know."

Hiroaki Kiyoyama (assistant trainer)
"She was race ready as of last week, and she just went through the motions on the Polytrack today. I think it's safe to say that she's in peak form. She never let up in her last race (the Shuka Sho, 5th), and that's due to her maturing, mentally. She's learned to relax over 2,000 meters and it's made a world of a difference. She'll be up against the older girls this time and it won't be a chore by any stretch of the imagination, but we're betting on her potential which we think is as good as any."

Yasuo Tomomichi (trainer)
"I don't know if she just likes the time of the year or what, but she's in really good form at the moment. Her action was good despite the poor track conditions and the time from the workout was what we expected. I can say for sure that she's in even better shape than she was for her last race (the Fuchu Himba Stakes, 1st). The 3-year-olds are pretty tough this year, but given the performance and the time from her last race, I like our chances here. We always thought she would come around sooner rather than later, so we have high hopes for her."

Tadayuki Kawasaki (groom)
"Her last race was difficult for her because it was her first race in a while, and started acting up. But she wasn't shockingly bad and it's obvious she's starting to come into her own. It took her some time to get used to Ritto (Training Center), but she's put the weight back on and is working out hard. We don't have any real worries here; if anything, we're looking forward to the race because she has a real fire in her belly."

Piena Venus

Katsumi Minai (trainer)
"The workout went well, and I thought she moved better than what her time showed. It's clear she's getting better, but the key will be how she manages to relax on the day of the race, and how she can conquer the distance. She's not losing any weight, and she's been able to maintain a good level of form recently."

Ryusuke Saito (assistant trainer)
"She didn't run her best race the last time (in the 2,400-meter Kyoto Daishoten on Oct. 11), but she had her moment against some of the best boys in the country and we think she ran well. She's stayed at Ritto since and she's had a lot of intense training as of late because she's been in good enough form to take it. I think she'll run a lot better this time around, especially if she can grab the lead early and run at a rhythm she likes."

"I just found out Monday that I was riding. I was originally supposed to ride a 2-year-old from our stable (trainer Toru Miya) in Tokyo, but that plan was postponed. Now I'm riding in a Grade 1 race again. It's always nice to have a mount in any Grade 1 race, but when the horse is from your own stable, it makes things even better. Winning my first Grade 1 race in the NHK Mile Cup with Joe Cappuccino was great, but he was under a different trainer; had he been from my stable, it would have made victory so much sweeter. She took the bit on her own in the workout today, and her time was good. I could tell she was a much better horse compared to the summer, when she was still a bit uptight. She looked a bit plump as of last week, but she's sharpened up a lot this week."

Shigetada Takahashi (trainer)
"She got her work in on Wednesday. She put up a fast time last week so we weren't counting on anything special this week. But her time was good again, and I think that says everything about the kind of form she's in right now. She has her appetite and after training like she has been, it gives us a lot of confidence going into the race. We believe she has a good shot here, even against a field as tough as the one we're going to face. She can handle a bit of rain, and we're looking forward to it."

Tadao Igarashi (trainer)
"She looked sharp crossing the line, and I think she knows herself when a race is coming up. It's all in (jockey Shigefumi) Kumazawa's hands now; we're not worried about the others. Things got tough for her the last race because she started fighting the jockey halfway through the race. She doesn't run well in traffic, so a lot will come down to how she finds a way to run at her own rhythm."

Takanori Kikuzawa
"She's worked extremely well for the second straight week and we just wanted to see that she finished strong. This time she'll race without the cheek pieces, set her free during the race. Condition wise, I don't think she could be any better."
