Training Report of Foreign Entries
Japan Cup (G1)
November 26, 2010 (Friday)
<At Tokyo Racecourse>
DANDINO (GB, C3, dark bay or brown)
-jogged 1 lap, cantered 500m, jogged 400m, cantered 3/4 lap and jogged 400m on turf course
[3F: 43.3 – 14.3]
(exercised from 7:18AM to 7:45AM, ridden by Paul Mulrennan)
“I’m very very happy with him. We just did a normal canter and a nice blow out at the end of the training. I’m happy with the draw (3), because we can save a lot of ground. Just as long as he can break well, he’ll be able to sit in a good position. It rained last night but the ground is still good to firm, and I don’t think there will be any problems with that. When we won at Royal Ascot earlier this year, it was on the ground like that—quite quick ground.”

“The horse is in good form and I’m happy with him. Today was a pipe out and the turf felt better because of the showers last night. I’m happy with the draw (3)—the shorter length will help. It would be ideal if we could travel in fifth or sixth. We just need to get to a good position as early as possible. Dandino will have blinkers on him on the race day so he will be more focused. I know the Japanese horses are getting tougher and tougher every year, but this horse is just a three-year-old and he could learn a lot from running in the Japan Cup.”

JOSHUA TREE (IRE, C3, bay)
-walked 1/2 lap, cantered 3/4 lap, walked, cantered strongly 3/4 lap and walked on dirt course
(exercised from 7:19AM to 7:49AM, ridden by Gosuke Motoki)
“He was very fresh after this morning’s workout and I’m very pleased with him. (With the draw 12) I think we are in a very good position with the favored on our outside and the second favored right next to us on our inside. The foreign horses aren’t so far away, which is also very good.”

CIRRUS DES AIGLES (FR, G4, bay)
-jogged 600m, cantered 1/3 lap, walked 400m and galloped 1,000m on turf course
[5F: 70.7 – 55.3 – 40.0 – 12.1]
(exercised from 7:18AM to 7:40AM, ridden by Franck Blondel)
“The horse is in good form and is tuned up well for the race. He seems to like it here. Although it rained heavily last night, I was glad to see that the turf wasn’t as soft as I had anticipated. But this horse can race on any kind of going, so I’m not worried. His gallop was very good. Sometimes he goes too fast but looking at the time taken, he had momentum and today’s pace was very good. Breaking from stall 18 means he has a lot of ground to make up but still, I hope he can travel well and find his stride.”

MARINOUS (FR, C4, dark bay or brown)
-walked 1/4 lap, jogged 1/2 lap, walked 300m, cantered 600m, walked and turned canter into 1,200m gallop on dirt course
[6F: 80.5 – 66.7 – 53.1 – 39.5 – 13.8]
(exercised from 7:20AM to 7:43AM, ridden by Aurelien Malenfant)
“His training this morning on the dirt went well and I couldn’t be happier with him. (Regarding the draw 17) We have to see how he breaks and how the race develops. It will depend on the pace, but he should save ground and settle well before making his bid. The condition of the turf was very good this morning since it rained last night. There was a bit of damage near the rail but I think it’s a very good course all in all. Marinous has developed impressively, and he’s still improving so we are all looking forward to his chance in the race.”

MORES WELLS (GB, H6, bay)
-walked, jogged 1/2 lap, walked 1/2 lap, cantered lightly 1 lap, walked and cantered 3/4 lap on dirt course
(exercised from 7:20 to 7:52, ridden by Sebastien Maillot)
“The horse is in good condition—the jockey said he was very pleased with the horse’s movement today. The draw was exactly what we wished for, so we’re happy with that. We’re ready and just have our fingers crossed. The horse’s exercise tomorrow will be a canter but a little lighter than today, and on race day, he’ll have one easy slow canter, which is what we normally do in France.”

TIMOS (GER, H5, chestnut)
-was transported to Tokyo Racecourse, leaving Shiroi Quarantine Facility at 10:15AM and arriving at the international stables at 12:12PM today.
“The trip here was very smooth and the horse is doing fine. His weight is going up since he arrived in Japan. What he’ll be doing for his training tomorrow is up to the trainer, who will come see the horse later today.”

VOILA ICI (IRE, H5, gray)
-walked 1/4 lap, jogged 1/4 lap and turned canter into 1/2 lap gallop on turf course
[3F: 40.3 – 12.0]
(exercised from 7:20 from 7:41, ridden by Mirco Demuro)
“I’m very pleased with the horse’s movement this morning. The rain last night conditioned the turf well. I think breaking from stall no.1 is very good since it will let us take an economic trip through the race.”
(comments taken from Vittorio Caruso)
“The horse is in very good form. Stall no.1 is the best draw you could ask for. In the race, I will see how the other horses travel after breaking. I was fortunate enough to win the Japan Cup two years ago with Screen Hero, and I’m happy to ride an Italian horse this year. I hope to be as fortunate as I was then.”

FIFTY PROOF (CAN, G4, chestnut)
-schooled saddling area and paddock, and jogged 2,400m on dirt course
(exercised from 7:36AM to 7:44AM, ridden by Tyler Gaskin)
“The horse is healthy. He’s eating well, drinking well, and I’m happy with him. He’s a large horse but has lots of speed and is sound. If there’s no pace in the race, he may go to the front. It’s up to Justin (jockey) but he won’t deliberately hold the horse back. The horse will do a gallop tomorrow morning.”
(comments taken from Ian Black)
“The pace in the last two races were very slow and no one went to the front, so I did. If it’s the same case on Sunday, I’ll probably take the lead.”
