June 2, 2011 (Wednesday)
<At Tokyo Race Course>
Weather: Light Rain Going: Firm (turf course), Standard (dirt course)
BEAUTY FLASH (NZ, G6, chestnut)
- galloped 400m out of the starting gate at 1,600m-course starting point, then cantered to goal area (turf course)
(exercised from 7:30 AM to 7:43 AM, ridden by Kin Wai Cheung)
[fractional time] from the gate (12.0 – 11.1 – 13.4)
"Last year, he put on 18 kilos in the two days prior to the race, and he ran a disappointing race. So I asked the vet here to scope him and found out that he had a substantial amount of blood in him. This time around, he's a stronger horse and I won't let the same thing happen again.
I wouldn't be too bothered by the rest of the horses in the race. The drawer plays the biggest role—you get a better draw, you get a bigger advantage. My preference would be somewhere between one to seven. In the race we don't have to lead, we'll just sit off the pace. If the leader goes faster we'll just go with the flow and sit in a nice position behind him. Tomorrow he'll do a light canter on the dirt course."

THUMBS UP (NZ, G7, bay)
- jogged 1/4 lap and slowly cantered 2 laps (dirt course)
(exercised from 7:32 AM to 7:45 AM, ridden by Dale Bussey)
"His weight is perfect. He's been eating extremely well without putting on excessive weight. His work has all been good—he's done nothing wrong since he's been here and I'm very happy with the horse. He did a nice 1,200m gallop yesterday and moved beautifully. The time was also very good and he wasn't blowing excessively hard afterwards. Regarding the development of the race, a strong pace would suit him but it really depends on the draw. Six would be nice. We're very pleased to be here and since he hasn't done anything wrong, I don't see why he won't run a really good race on Sunday. He'll canter lightly on the dirt tomorrow."
