SCENIC BLAST (AUS, 5g, bay)
- jogged 1-1/4 laps, cantered ~ galloped 3/4 lap (turf course)
(exercised from 6:45 to 7:04 on turf, ridden by Daniel Morton)
"(Regarding the race development), as far as the race goes I think there should be good speed in this race, which generally suits our horse, and if he's just off the pace in mid-field, I believe he'll be good enough to finish it and win. I've seen the form of your horses but they were a little bit hard to line up, and I've watched the videos of the Sprinter's Stakes - I've done as much as I can but I'm just really concentrating on our ride.
(Regarding his workload seeming to be light in Japan) he's done most of his speed work before he left England - and this close to a race, I wouldn't go too far or too fast. It was just short and sharp today, and he's fit and ready.
Steven Arnold normally rides Scenic Blast, but he had to ride in Australia on Saturday and since he can't ride in Japan on Sunday, Mark Zahra will replace him. He is a very good Australian jockey and since he has a similar riding style to Steven Arnold, he will suit the horse.
He had four weeks in the paddock after the July Cup, and after that he probably just did four weeks of steady work. And then I started to build him up. He's very fresh the first race after a long rest."
