Training Report of Foreign Entries
Japan Cup (G1)
November 24, 2010 (Wednesday)
<At Tokyo Racecourse>
DANDINO (GB, C3, dark bay or brown)
-jogged 1 lap, cantered 1 lap, walked and jogged 1/2 lap on dirt course
(exercised from 7:19 to 7:40, ridden by Oliver Williams)
“His condition is very good. He was a bit inquisitive once out on the track, but he seemed to have gotten used to it. The surface on the dirt course here is the best we've ever had. The reason we came here is because of the ground-we don't get this kind of ground in England. The surface in his last race (St. Leger Stakes) was just horrible. If we knew, he wouldn't have started in it. Probably with the horse still being young and not having big titles under his belt, he won't receive as much attention, but no pressure is good. Tomorrow, the jockey will ride him, maybe on the turf. Our trainer James will come tomorrow and decide.”
(comments taken from Oliver Williams)
“He was just looking around yesterday, but now he's settled down. He's lost some weight because of the traveling, but is putting some back on each day. He sleeps well as if he's saving his energy.”
(comments by Lynn Ward)
JOSHUA TREE (IRE, C3, bay)
-jogged, walked, jogged, cantered 1/2 lap on dirt course, ridden by Gosuke Motoki
-walked on turf course, ridden by Gosuke Motoki
-cantered and galloped 7 furlongs out on turf course, ridden by Colm O'Donoghue
[7F: 92.9 – 62.4 – 49.1 – 35.4 - 11.8]
(exercised from 8:08 to 8:43)
“He was very strong and moving very well this morning. I'm happy with him. He's very adaptable and can race from any position so there isn't a particular race pattern for him. The turf was great and the ground was similar to Canada's Woodbine Racecourse.”
(comments taken from Colm O'Donoghue)
“He came off the track very fresh and Colm was very pleased with the horse this morning. Our trainer, Aidan O'Brien, is giving us specific instructions on what the horse should do everyday. Being that he's only been raced lightly this year, I think he has a better chance in the Japan Cup than the other European horses. He was in 95% shape when we won the Canadian International Stakes, and now in Japan, I would rate him 100%. If he could hold off the older horses like that when he was in Canada, he should have a very good chance in the Japan Cup as well. He'll trot, do a four or four and a half furlongs of steady canter, walk in between, and then do a seven and a half canter again on the dirt course from tomorrow and up until the race.”

CIRRUS DES AIGLES (FR, G4, bay)
-jogged 600m, walked 100m, cantered 300m, walked 100m and cantered 1,000m on dirt course
(exercised from 7:20 to 7:36, ridden by Zoe Gargoulaud)
“The horse is in great condition. He's responding very well to the training. The track was good and dry this morning. The turf seems to be very fast, but a softer ground would suit this horse better. Tomorrow's work will be much the same, only a bit stronger than today. We are planning to gallop him on the grass on Friday.”

MARINOUS (FR, C4, dark bay or brown)
-jogged 600m, cantered 300m, walked 100m and cantered 1,000m on dirt course
(exercised from 7:20 to 7:36, ridden by Aurelien Malenfant)
“The horse's condition is very good and he was moving very well this morning. When I saw the track yesterday it was a bit wet, but seeing it after it has dried up, it looks like a very fast track. The (Tokyo) racecourse is wonderful. He will do more or less the same kind of work he did this morning. We won't take him out on the turf until the race day.”

Mores Wells
MORES WELLS (GB, H6, bay)
-walked, jogged, cantered 1/2 lap on dirt course
-walked, cantered and galloped last 7 furlongs out on turf course
[7F: 95.1 – 64.8 – 50.7 – 37.0 - 12.4]
(exercised from 8:08 to 8:42, ridden by Sebastien Maillot)
“Today was just an easy piece of work. We weren't going with the other horse-just getting a lead, and we were satisfied with the horse's actions and attitude. We're very pleased with the way he has traveled over from France and he is in fantastic shape. He has been having a very good season this year, winning a series of small races, and even when he was second in the Canadian International and in grade-level company, he was beaten in the photo-finish. It was a good run and he's shown that he can compete in the best grand-prix races in the world. Tomorrow, he will have a quiet day of training. He's a big horse and eats a lot, so he'll be doing his routine of 1,200m canters from here on end.”

Fifty Proof
The following horse was transported to Tokyo Racecourse today, leaving the Shiroi Quarantine Center at 10:10 AM and arriving at the international stables of the racecourse at 12:05 PM.
Comments made by the connections upon their arrival are as follows:
FIFTY PROOF (CAN, G4, chestnut)
“This is his first time to travel outside of Canada, but so far there seems to be no problems. He's taking everything in his stride, adjusting to his new surroundings very well. He's eating very well and that's a good thing. The trainer will decide when the horse will gallop, but if he does anything faster, I think it would be tomorrow. The trainer has arrived in Japan already and will come see the horse later on today.”
