New incentives for owners and trainers in revamped Asian Mile Challenge

The world's richest mile series of thoroughbred races, the Asian Mile Challenge, has been revamped for the 2011 season. The composition of the four-race series remains unchanged. It continues to comprise the Futurity Stakes, the Dubai Duty Free, the BMW Champions Mile and the Yasuda Kinen. The distance of the Futurity has, however, been changed from 1600 to 1400 metres.

Date Race Distance Course Prize Money approx. US$ equivalent
26 Feb 2011 Futurity Stakes 1400m Caulfield AUD 500,000 $496,000
26 Mar 2011 Dubai Duty Free 1800m Meydan USD 5,000,000 $5,000,000
25 Apr 2011 BMW Champions Mile 1600m Sha Tin HKD 12,000,000 $1,543,000
5 Jun 2011 Yasuda Kinen 1600m Tokyo JPY 208,000,000 $2,512,000

In addition to prize money of over US$9 million for the four series races, a new bonus structure will be implemented this season for both owners and trainers. The first Owner to succeed in winning two Asian Mile Challenge races in the same year with the same horse will be given a luxury automobile at a value of US$100,000 as an additional reward for accomplishing this remarkable feat.

Trainers will also compete for a luxury automobile at a value of US$100,000 based on an AMC points system which awards double points to trainers whose horses feature prominently in races for which they travel overseas. Points will be awarded back to sixth place, with values doubling for overseas races. Trainers must score points in two or more countries to be eligible, and the trainer with the highest points total will officially be named 2011 AMC Champion after the running of the Yasuda Kinen. A trainer may compete for points with different horses in the bonus format.

Placing Home Points Away Points
1st 12 24
2nd 6 12
3rd 4 8
4th 3 6
5th 2 4
6th 1 2

In the event of a tie, the trainer with the highest number of overseas points will be named the winner. If a tie still exists, the winner will be determined by calculation of the highest average finishing position of horses which have accumulated points. If a tie still exists, the winner will be drawn by lot by officials of the Japan Racing Association.
