Nuovo Record finishes 11th in Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf

Japan's lone hopeful in this year's Breeders' Cup races, Nuovo Record, finished 11th out of 13 runners in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf on Sunday, Nov. 6, at Santa Anita Park. Starting from the No. 13 gate, the 5-year-old Heart's Cry mare was one of the top picks heading into the race, but coming around the final turn, she could not demonstrate the speed that landed her the 2014 Yushun Himba (Japanese Oaks) title and a second-place finish in the Hong Kong Cup last December.

"She was in good condition and was able to sit nicely after jumping out well," trainer Makoto Saito said. "But she was not able to adjust to the quick pace of the race, and with a tight track, it was disappointing that she unable to take any breath during the race."

"She started well and was able to run in good position," jockey Yutaka Take said. "The connections, as well as the horse, did their best, but the result is disappointing. It was a great effort by everyone involved, and someday, I hope to win the Breeders' Cup with a Japanese horse."
