A Shin Hikari connection comments
Masanori Sakaguchi, trainer
“Unfortunately, I think the ground didn’t suit a frontrunner with early speed. At the turn home he didn’t look as good as he normally does. But, his breathing when he pulled up wasn’t bad so I would say that rather than being outclassed he simply couldn’t handle the soft ground. I’d like to express my deep appreciation to all the fans who cheered him on both at Ascot and at home in Japan. Thank you for your support.”
Yutaka Take, jockey
“He felt good in the first half of the race, but gradually got keen and I think perhaps he switched on a bit earlier than usual. At the end, he really didn’t have anything left. I never thought it would be an easy race, but the horse was in perhaps the best condition he’s been in yet and I did think he had a good chance of winning. The results are a big disappointment. I myself have had a very full spring season with many fantastic racing challenges overseas. It is really unfortunate that I wasn’t able to wrap the season up with a win. I’ll continue to do my best and do ask you for your support.”
