Teetan, Whyte receive short-term JRA Jockey's License
The Japan Racing Association (JRA) announced that short-term jockey's licenses will been issued to two Hong Kong-based jockeys, Karis Teetan and Douglas Whyte.
Teetan's short-term riding license is effective from July 20 to August 8, 2017, while Whyte's license is from July 22 to August 27. This will be the second consecutive year for both jockeys to receive a JRA short-term license.
Whyte, 45, will be primarily riding for owner, Katsumi Yoshida, and his host trainer, Yasutoshi Ikee of JRA Ritto Training Center, while Teetan, 27, will mainly be riding for owner, Kazuko Yoshida, and his host trainer, Noriyuki Hori of JRA Miho Training Center.
Teetan, a native of Mauritius, finished fourth in this season's Hong Kong jockey rankings, with Whyte following in sixth place. In his first time riding in Japan, Teetan rode two winners from 30 races last year, while Whyte has an overall record of 57 wins from 379 rides in JRA races.
