The 40th Japan Cup (G1)

November 26, 2020 (Thursday)

<At Tokyo Racecourse>

Weather: Fine
Going: Standard (dirt course)

Way To Paris (GB, H7, Gray)

-walked 1/4 lap, jogged 1/4 lap, cantered 1 lap, walked 1/2 lap
(exercised from 7:24 to 7:46, ridden by assistant trainer Zoe Pfeil)

“After the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud victory in June, it was decided to challenge the Japan Cup and give the horse an opportunity of a lifetime at the end of his career.”

“Since Way To Paris has never traveled overseas, he was a bit stressed after arriving in Japan but has adjusted to his new surroundings much faster than we expected. The COVID-19 measures haven’t affected him either. His movements in his gallop on Tuesday and his workout this morning was very good, all went well, and he is very fresh.”

“This horse has a sensitive side but at the same time he is a fearless fighter and as in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, once he’s in that frame of mind, he does not give in.”

“The race tactics will be Mirco Demuro’s call and whether the horse should fare well against the Triple Crown winners will depend on whether Way To Paris is relaxed in the later stages and able to show his good turn of foot. We are confident that the turf at Tokyo Racecourse, not to mention the 2,400-meter distance, will suit our horse and we are looking forward to see how he handles it.”
