“We did one lap of canter today and Joe is happy with him. He moves well, he looks well and I think he’s ready for the race now.

I think he has a big challenge to adapt to the Japanese style of racing. It’s a big field—17 runners—so you need a clean smooth race, no traffic problems. To win a group one, everything has to go right. You cannot escape mistakes and the opposition is too good. So tomorrow, we just want to have a clean race, and then we will see. He’s a very good horse and I think his condition is very good. Since we arrived in Japan, everything has gone smoothly with the horse. Tomorrow is why we are here. Before the race, we get a little bit nervous because it’s important but now we cannot really do anymore. He’s work is finished, preparation is finished so we have to wait for the race.

We won’t go out to the track tomorrow morning but walk inside the stable.”
