LUCKY SWEYNESSE (NZ, G7)
- jogged 1/4 lap and cantered 1 lap right-handed, walked 1/4 lap left-handed on turf course
(exercised from 8:34 AM to 8:45 AM, ridden by Ka Chun Leung)
“The owner decided on bringing the horse to this race because they wanted to step out from Hong Kong and join the international racing scene, and since he is an expert in 1,200m races in Hong Kong, they thought this race would be more suitable for him.
When the horse arrived in Japan, at first it was a strange view for him but after 2 to 3 days, he realized the situation in front of him, came to settle down and looks like he loves Japan more than Hong Kong.
He had a fracture injury for over one year and then went back to racing at the end of last season. He was second to Ka Ying Rising, the best sprinter in the world, in his last start (at the beginning of this season)—his form is better than last season and his condition is back to normal.
From their records, Satono Reve and Namura Clair are the two horses we have our eyes on but I hope my horse can get a good result as well.”

“Today I just did some slow work and the horse felt very chilled out. He feels like he loves the track, he moved very well and there’s no problem for him.
His last race was in the beginning of the season and he ran a very good race. His condition is rising and his form is getting better and better.
Regarding who would be our rivals, I would go with what the trainer said and to add to that, last year’s winner of the Sprinters Stakes, Lugal, but it’s a very strong field and I respect all of the runners but hopefully we can get some luck and get a good result.
For sprinters, the inside draw is always better. Somewhere between the inside and the middle draw would be good for my horse. I still need to discuss with the trainer after seeing the draw—where to keep him would be more comfortable—but I think the idea is to try to go smoothly because it would be better for the horse.”
