As of April 2024
Veterinary assessment for suitability to race is carried out by a JRA veterinarian before making a declaration to start the horse in the race.
The veterinary assessment includes the following:
a. visual inspection
b. physical examination
c. cardiac auscultation
d. lameness examination
e. palpation of the musculoskeletal system
When a veterinary officer gives instructions concerning measures to be taken for said racehorse based on the results of the veterinary assessment, the trainer must comply with those instructions.
